Buckhead’s Morris Brandon Elementary, recognized and known for gains in educational excellence in the community, now has been officially designated a Georgia School of Excellence.
The honor is given to public schools from each congressional district for either being in the top 10 percent or for making the greatest progress. Morris Brandon, which is on Howell Mill Road in Buckhead, is the top 10 school for the Fifth Congressional District.
Top 10 schools are in the top 10 percent of schools in Georgia as measured in by the assessments in reading and mathematics.
Principal Karen Evans credited a talented teaching staff for the award. “Our staff is held accountable by the community,” she said. “I am proud of the staff, students and parents.”
In 2003, Morris Brandon Elementary was selected as a No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School. In 2004 and 2005, it received the Georgia Department of Education Platinum Award, which is presented to schools for consistently high achievement.
The school is also authorized for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years program.
