On Feb.11, Heritage Sandy Springs teamed up with the city of Sandy Springs, Optech-Monette, LLC and the North Fulton Master Gardeners to rescue dozens of plants from the future site of the Abernathy Greenway Linear Park, located on the south side of Abernathy Road, between Roswell Road and Johnson Ferry Road.

Heritage Sandy Springs Horticulturist Jen Yavorsky and Property Committee member Herb Daws coordinated the project as an effort to save these plants that would have been destroyed during site demolition. Volunteers met at 9:00 a.m. to begin digging and transporting about 35 plants to Heritage Green, 6075 Sandy Springs Circle.

With some of the rescued trees standing at more than 15 feet high, a great deal of coordination and careful planning was done to ensure that plants were removed and transported in a safe and efficient manner.

“The operation ran very smoothly,” Daws says. “With the plants that we obtained being in such great condition and with the outstanding contributions from the North Fulton Master Gardeners and Optech-Monette, it was a very successful project.”

These mature plants will make an immediate and positive change in the landscape at Heritage Green. Plants include roses, hydrangeas, azaleas, Dogwoods, Japanese maples and much more. For more information call (404) 851-9111 or e-mail news@heritagesandysprings.org.
