It’s no easy feat to hit a ball if you’re not watching it, but playing a night game with insufficient lights leaves everyone in the dark.

Although there are lights at the Morgan Falls Park athletic fields, about half of them are scheduled to be upgraded courtesy of the Sandy Springs City Council. During the council meeting on May 6, council unanimously approved a contract with Southeast Electrical Contractors, Inc. to replace and repair the lights at the park. The contract, which will upgrade lights on lower fields one through four, is in the amount of $299,000.

Joe Roche, president of the Sandy Springs Youth Sports Organization Board said new lights will be an asset to the league.

“The current overhead lights for the fields are 31 years old and the poles have passed their life expectancy,” he said. “Most of the lights are burning out and failing. The new lights will be full-spectrum halide lights and will provide well lit fields for the next 30 years,” Roche said.
