Cox Communications to cut 2 percent of jobs

Sandy Springs-based Cox Communications, the nation’s third-largest cable TV company, has announced it plans to cut about 460 jobs, or 2 percent of its work force, through early retirement, attrition and possibly layoffs.

The cuts will be companywide. It is unclear how many of the job losses among the company’s 23,000 employees will be in the Atlanta area. The company has fewer than 2,000 employees here.

Cox Communications, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sandy Springs-based Cox Enterprises, offers cable TV, high-speed Internet access and phone service to more than 6.2 million residential and commercial customers and plans a move into wireless service.
