Schools honored for volunteer efforts

The Fulton County School System presented the Golden Apple volunteerism award to 84 schools Nov. 21, including all nine Sandy Springs public schools that were operating in 2007-08.

Riverwood and North Springs Charter high schools, Sandy Springs and Ridgeview Charter middle schools, and Dunwoody Springs Charter, Heards Ferry, High Point, Spalding Drive Charter and Woodland Charter elementary schools all were honored for their success at involving the community through volunteering last school year.

A school had to increase volunteer participation by 10 percent or average at least four volunteer hours per student to win.

Riverwood wins double state honor

Riverwood International Charter School was among 31 Fulton County public schools and 275 statewide that were recognized for their performances on standardized end-of-year curriculum tests and progress under the No Child Left Behind Act in 2007-08.

For its performance on the Georgia High School Graduation Tests, Riverwood was one of eight schools to receive recognition for both high performance and greatest gains.
