Judge Bodiford first speaker at BBA’s new meeting place

The Buckhead Business Association (BBA) will start the new year with a new location for its Thursday morning breakfast meetings. Starting Jan. 8, the meetings will be at City Club of Buckhead, 3343 Peachtree Road, Suite 1850, at the top of the Atlanta Financial Center.

BBA Executive Director Sharon Silva said: “This move is an exceptional opportunity for our BBA membership and will certainly attract new members. We are delighted to hold our weekly meetings in such a beautiful facility.”

Past BBA President Donna Kain, together with City Club of Buckhead sales manager Brittany Barker, was instrumental in bringing about the venue change.

Superior Court Judge James Bodiford, whose recent cases included Brian Nichols, Lynn Turner and other high-profile defendants, will be the featured speakers for the first 7:30 a.m. breakfast meeting in the new locale Jan. 8.

Elizabeth Gill of Express Employment Professionals will take over as the BBA president at the annual luncheon Jan. 15 at the Atlanta History Center. The keynote speaker is Newt Gingrich, former speaker of the U.S. House.

The Buckhead Business of the Year Awards also will be presented at the luncheon. Finalists are Deka Athletics, Entebello Apothecary & Spa, Just the Thing, MF Buckhead and Secure America. Individual tickets and corporate table sponsorships are available through the BBA.

The other newly elected BBA officers for 2009 are President-elect Heather Wright of The Wright Firm, Secretary Majed Awamleh of Buckhead Cleaning & Janitorial Services and Treasurer Nancy Sobin of AXA Advisors. The 2009 vice presidents are Catherine Cattles, Brenda Home, Marcia Jaffe, Ray Kimsey, Shannon Bradshaw, Doug Eidson, Gary Rzucidlo, Jill Heineck, Cheryl Carter, Mark Shaver, Sally Silver, Louise Plonowski, Charles Qualls and Karen Losin.

City Club of Buckhead is a new, 36,000-square-foot business/athletic club in the space formerly occupied by The Buckhead Club. The space recently had a $6.5 million renovation.

Aaron Rents purchases 35 stores from franchisee

Buckhead-based Aaron Rents Inc. has bought from Rosey Rentals LP of Florida 35 Aaron’s Sales & Lease Ownership franchised stores in six Southeastern states that generated $45 million in annual revenue. The stores will now be company-operated by Aaron Rents.

“As in the past, we continue to make acquisitions of franchisees when it is of mutual benefit,” Robert C. Loudermilk Jr., the president and CEO of Aaron Rents, said in a news release. “Rosey Rentals has been a good franchisee, and we hope to continue our relationship in some form in the future. This transaction should add approximately 3 percent to our top-line growth in 2009 and is expected to be accretive to earnings.”

Rosey Rentals was Aaron Rents’ second-largest franchisee.

Aaron Rents has more than 1,535 company-operated and franchised stores in 48 states and Canada. For the third quarter, its profit rose 32 percent to $21.1 million on $388 million in revenue.
