Yolanda Adrean, who has been the president of the Mount Paran-Northside Citizens Association since 2005, has announced her candidacy for Buckhead’s Dist. 8 seat on the Atlanta City Council, now held by Clair Muller, in the November elections.
Muller has announced that she will not seek re-election.
Adrean spearheaded a political committee that assembled data and provided testimony to Georgia House and Senate leaders to eliminate school taxes for Atlanta’s senior citizens, organized a public letter campaign that helped halt Fulton County’s plans to raise taxes in 2007, developed financial analysis and led an effort resulting in a 1-mil reduction in school taxes, and has helped to raise more than $200,000 in private donations to renovate Fire Station 27 in Buckhead. She also chairs the finance committee for the BeltLine’s Tax Allocation District Advisory Committee.
Adrean was a founding member, treasurer and president of a group that raised funds to pay for a music therapist, art education, sports programs, and educational field trips for the North Metro Program, which serves students with severe emotional and behavioral disorders or autism.
