By dining out for breakfast, lunch or dinner at many area restaurants April 22, you can help the Open Hand organization provide home-delivered meals and nutrition education to seniors and to people with diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, AIDS or cancer.

Restaurants that participate in the 17th annual Dining Out for Life event donate a minimum of 20 percent of sales that day to Open Hand. The restaurants include La Petite Maison in Sandy Springs, Blue Ridge Grill in Buckhead, and Hudson Grille in Brookhaven and Perimeter Mall. A full list can be found at www.diningOutforoh.org.

Open Hand has grown from delivering 14 meals a day in 1988 to providing more than 5,000 meals daily across 17 counties in north Georgia. Ninety-one percent of Open Hand’s clients are at or below the federal poverty level.

The Dining Out for Life 2009 co-chairs are Leigh Catherall, an Open Hand board member and owner of Here to Serve Restaurants, which includes Aja, Home and Lola; Darryl Evans, the executive chef for The Restaurant at Verve Lounge; and Harrison Rohr III, the director of catering and conference services at the new St. Regis in Buckhead.
