Buckhead Coalition hosts retail ‘Crime Curtailment Conference’

The Buckhead Coalition has scheduled a free one-hour “Crime Curtailment Conference” Aug. 25 for retail establishments in greater Buckhead. It will include presentations by 10 security disciplines.

“It’s imperative that merchants be armed with the latest in public safety services and equipment to combat the threat of the ‘crash and grab’ thieves,” explained Coalition president Sam Massell. “Our mission is to nurture the quality of life in the community and certainly security is at the top of any such list”.

The forum will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in the Woodruff Auditorium at McElreath Hall of the Atlanta History Center, 130 W. Paces Ferry Rd.

Subjects covered will include alarm systems, building barricades, flood lighting, GPS tracking, guard dogs, locking devices, non-shatter windows, parking protection, personal police and surveillance cameras.

The Atlanta Police Department Zone 2 Precinct, which covers all of Buckhead, has had the greatest reduction in crime for the last two years. But Buckhead has had its share of “crash and grab” thefts from retailers during the past year or two.

Robberies and burglaries have a history of being reduced when retailers properly address protection procedures. Thus, the Coalition’s program is designed to continue the crime-reduction success rate of Zone 2, according to Massell.
