The DeKalb County Police Alliance, an independent 501 (c)(3) organization, will host its Annual Police Officers Gala & Silent Auction on Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Crowne Plaza Ravinia Hotel to raise funds to continue a life insurance policy for county police officers.

In 2007, DCPA purchased a three-year life insurance policy from Chubb which expires in September 2010. The event aims to raise funds to renew the three-year $100,000 life insurance policy for all of DeKalb’s police officers.

The policy covers all sworn police officers in DeKalb including those serving unincorporated areas such as Brookhaven as well as Avondale Estates, Chamblee, Clarkston, Decatur, Doraville, Dunwoody, Lithonia, Pine Lake and Stone Mountain. The policy provides and includes occupational accidental death and dismemberment benefits.

The policy previously provided $100,000 to each of the families of late DeKalb County police officers Eric Barker and Ricky Bryant Jr., who were gunned down in January 2008 while answering a suspicious person call at an apartment complex.

The DCPA, like many non-profits, is struggling to raise funds during these difficult economic times and is calling on businesses and the community to help renew the policy as its expiration date nears. For information contact the DeKalb Police Alliance at 678-362-0392 or www.dekalb-police.org.
