The Buckhead Area Transportation Management Association (BATMA) Go Green and Commute Clean Challenge has come to a close after five months of searching for the city’s most ecologically responsible commuters, employers, and office buildings.  The winners were recognized at a luncheon given in their honor at Maggiano’s in Buckhead.

One individual, one office building, and four businesses were selected via a points accumulation system for their accomplishments in the area of clean commuting. The winners are:

1)     Buckhead’s Greenest Commuter: Kevin Fitch uses public transportation every morning to commute to Mansell Group’s offices at Securities Centre.  Since May, he has logged almost 200 commutes and has saved nearly 10,000 miles of driving.

2)     Buckhead’s Greenest Office Building: One Alliance Center, owned and managed by Tishman-Speyer, took home the award for Greenest Office Building based on its responsible operations and maintenance policies, commuter participation rates, and on-site events and amenities.

3)     Best New Commuter Program: This award was given to the business that has the most remarkable commuter program established after March 1, 2008.  This year, the award was given to the Atlanta History Center, which implemented its program in July 2008 and since then has eliminated over 209,737 vehicle miles of travel.

4)     Best Single Commuter Program: Chubb Atlanta received the award for Best Single Commuter Program, recognizing its alternative work arrangement program, which reduces the number of cars on the road during rush hours by allowing employees to choose between teleworking and a four day work week.

5)     Most Creative Commuter Program: The award for Most Creative Commuter Program was created by the judges who reviewed the application from The Buckhead Community Bank to recognize the Bank’s innovative Bucks for Bikes program, which allows customers to borrow funds to purchase a bicycle fee and interest free for twelve months.

6)     Best Overall Commuter Program: Rollins, Inc. has been proactive in promoting commute alternatives to its employees, eliminating over 400,000 vehicle miles of travel.
