More than 40 people took advantage of a bright sunny afternoon Nov. 19 to help dedicate Atlanta’s newest public park, the Louise C. Howard Memorial Park on Collier Road at Overbrook Drive and Tanyard Creek.
Jim Howard, son of Louise and James Howard Sr., said his mother always wanted the property to be turned into green space. He, along with his brother and sister John and Anne, grew up in the 1920s Georgian brick home that sat on the property until the city and The Trust for Public Land purchased it in 2007.
Atlanta Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Director Diane Harnell Cohen pointed out that the PATH Foundation’s new trail is coming through the park as part of the Atlanta BeltLine green space program.
Victoria Talley, representing The Trust for Public Land which was instrumental in the property purchase, said it had been the missing piece for the trail between Tanyard Creek Park and the Bobby Jones Golf Course.
