I have exciting news to share with you: as of January 1, I will be the owner and publisher of Atlanta INtown. This is a purchase from Nonami Enterprises, LLC. Nonami will keep a small interest in the company and, of course, our friendship with them will continue – they’ve been unwavering in their support of our community-building news efforts.
Nonami has been an excellent role model, guiding me over the years on how to operate a business. I am grateful for my exposure to Nonami, what I’ve learned and opportunities gained. I’ll take their vote of confidence with me as I embark into the world as an entrepreneur. Thank you to the Nonami family.
I’ve worked for Atlanta INtown since 1994 when Chris Schroder, the company’s founder, hired me right out of college. Chris is also a University of Virginia grad and one of his fraternity brothers, French Slaughter, told me “you ought to go work for my friend Chris in Atlanta.” And here I am 13 years later.
Thank you, Chris, for giving me my first job, for welcoming me to Atlanta and for creating this great community newspaper, which has fostered relationships, business, friendships, and a sense of place for neighbors.
As we celebrate the 15th anniversary of Atlanta INtown, our commitment to the community continues to evolve. Our staff is developing new ideas and expanding on tried-and-true editorial projects, while developing new collaborations and growing long-term relationships, like our partnership with AtlantaPlanIt.com. We continue to search for creative opportunities for reader interaction with social media, including our Twitter feed (5,000–plus followers and growing), Facebook and our daily updated website at AtlantaINtownPaper.com. Atlanta INtown’s newist columnist, Jennifer Campbell, debuts in the February issue with expert travel advice, the latest products and, best yet, giveaways and offers on INtown’s website. We’ve partnered with SkyBlox and you’ll soon see our content on their Wi-Fi landing pages at local businesses and shops. This spring, we’ll have our own iPhone app thanks to our partners at Vert Mobile.
Atlanta INtown’s readers and advertisers will see a nearly seamless transition and our strong staff remains intact. We are busily working on new ideas and projects to continue the newspaper’s growth. Together we’ll continue to provide community news for readers and be a targeted marketing vehicle for local business.
Happy New Year,
Wendy G. Binns, Publisher
