Catwalk Meets Canvas

Those interested in art and high fashion should mark their calendars for the High Museum of Art’s Art Partners’ annual Catwalk Meets Canvas event on Saturday, Jan. 23, from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m. at Mercedes-Benz of Buckhead. This year’s celebration will combine “fashion and the fast lane” in honor of the museum’s spring exhibition, “The Allure of the Automobile.” The event will include an art show featuring the works of 12 progressive artists, a fashion marketplace, a High Fashion show by Saks Fifth Avenue, and the music of Joel Rabe of Lethal Rhythms Inc. Tickets are $25 for museum members and $45 for non-members. Guests who purchase Art Partners memberships from Dec. 1 through the day of the event will receive free admission. From Wednesday to Monday, Jan. 20-25, the Episcopal Cathedral of St. Phillip will host its annual Antiques Show and Tour of Homes featuring 35 renowned national and international antique dealers, learning lectures and appraisals, luncheons, and an afternoon tea. Admission to the Antiques Show is $15 and $25 for the Tour of Homes. Proceeds from the event will benefit Cool Girls Inc., an organization dedicated to the self-empowerment of girls. www.CathedralAntiques.org.

The 10th Annual Atlanta Jewish Film Festival, Atlanta’s largest film festival, will present films that explore life, culture, and history with a Jewish twist Jan. 13-24. Festival participants can view the featured films at three locations: Regal Cinemas Atlanta Station Stadium 16, Lefont Sandy Springs Theatre and Regal Cinemas Medlock Crossing Stadium 18. The Atlanta Preservation Center (APC) is now accepting volunteer applicants to lead its 10 tours around key landmarks in Atlanta. No special skills or knowledge are required, but volunteers must be members of the APC or be willing to join with a $35 individual or $60 family membership fee. In addition, training materials must be purchased for $25. Training sessions will begin with three overview classes from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 13, 20, and 27 at the Grant Mansion in Grant Park. Additional classes in February and March will provide in-depth details on each specific tour and practice tour run-throughs. Guides must commit to attending all classes and to giving at least one tour per month for two years. The Georgia Cancer Specialists (GCS) and Atlanta Oncology Associates (AOA) want your backpacks, suitcases, duffel bags, or diaper bags! The Eighth Annual Totes 2 Tots Suitcase Drive for foster children will take place Friday, Jan. 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at GCS offices in Atlanta (Emory Midtown and Northside). Decatur City Dance will ring in its 57th season with its popular Winter Dance Concert on Friday, Feb. 5, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 6, at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Decatur City Dance is proud to call itself the oldest performing dance group in DeKalb County.
