The Ritz-Carleton will host the 25th annual Candlelight Ball Saturday, March 27, as Buckhead celebrates 25 years of serving Georgia children, adults and families affected by autism. The ball is the major fundraising event for CADEF: The Childhood Autism Foundation. The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation will hold its 26th annual Preservation Gala at the Goodrum House on Friday, March 19, at 7:30 p.m. The annual gala – with the theme A Fine Feathered Fête – will feature cocktails, live entertainment, dancing and cuisine prepared by Atlanta’s most-prominent caterers. A record 26 Georgia artists are among the more than 225 selected to exhibit and sell their handmade furniture, jewelry, clothing, home décor and more at the 2010 American Craft Council Show in Atlanta. Partnering with the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center, the show will take place March 11-14 at the Cobb Galleria Centre. The intricate work of participating craft show artists ranges from under $20 to more than $1,000. Girls Rock Camp, an all-girl nonprofit music program, invites women ages 19 and up to participate in Ladies Rock Camp, March 12-14, at Atlanta Charter Middle School. The weekend event invites participants to learn to play an instrument, form bands, attend workshops and perform in a live concert at the Five Spot in Little Five Points. The grand finale camper showcase and songwriting workshop will be held with local activist and singer/songwriter Emily Saliers of Indigo Girls. Ladies Rock Camp is limited to 25 participants and no prior musical experience is necessary. Admission is on a first-come, first-served basis. Tuition is $350 and will help fund Girls Rock Camp’s summer 2010 program, as well as development of additional outreach programs that will bring the rock camp experience to at-risk girls throughout the state of Georgia. The Grant Park Cooperative Preschool Art Show and Auction is Saturday, March 6, at Eyedrum, featuring silent and live auctions with one-of-a-kind art from local artists. The annual Ovarian Cycle fitness event that raises money for ovarian cancer research is set for April 24, but training for the event begins March 14 at Atlanta area gyms. The “virtual ride” takes place on indoor cycling equipment. A registered dietician will also offer weight loss and endurance tips. Lace up those shoes and join thousands at the annual Hunger Walk/Run on Sunday, March 14, at Turner Field’s Green Lot. The event benefits the Atlanta Community Food Bank and five other local nonprofits with hunger relief programs: Episcopal Charities Foundation, The Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta, Lutheran Services of Georgia, Presbyterian Answer to Hunger (PATH) and St. Vincent De Paul Society.
