Mary Norwood

In an e-mail to supporters, Mary Norwood said she is conferring with her lawyers about what to do after the county elections board denied her petition seeking a spot on the ballot as an independent candidate in the race for a seat on the Fulton County Commission.
“Despite delivering 13 books of petitions containing over 30,000 signatures, the board did not render a favorable decision,” said Norwood to her constituents in the e-mail. “I am talking with my legal counsel – Matt Maguire of Balch & Bingham, and as soon as we have made a final decision on a course of action, I will let each of you know.”
Norwood’s notice of candidacy originally was rejected by the chairman of the Board of Registration and Elections because it was submitted more than four hours past the noon deadline on July 2. In an e-mail to her supporters, Norwood said the board subsequently would not accept her petitions.
Board spokesman Barry Garner did not return phone calls seeking comment for this article.
