Republicans Brandon Beach and John Albers were headed for a runoff Aug. 10 in their race for their party’s nomination to the state Senate seat representing District 56, which includes a portion of Sandy Springs.David Christian Belle Isle was eliminated in the three-way election July 20. Beach collected 38 percent of the 13,851 votes cast in the primary election, Albers received 33.5 percent and Belle Isle received 28.5 percent, according to the Georgia Secretary of State’s election website. Runoff elections are required when no candidate collects more than half the votes cast in an election.

In the race for the Republican nomination for Senate District 32, incumbent Sen. Judson Hill defeated challenger Lynda Coker. Hill collected nearly 63 percent of the more than 19,500 votes cast in the race, according to the Secretary of State’s website.
