Brookhaven residents have an opportunity to get a real taste of their own community and neighboring Chamblee in coming weeks with the return of two major annual events — the Taste of Chamblee on Aug. 21, followed by the Taste of Brookhaven on Sept. 18.

The Third Annual Taste of Chamblee is more than just a food event, it is a festival that provides an artistic mixture of culinary tastes from more than 30 restaurants, an ArtWalk featuring the works of more than 40 regional artists, live music from regional bands, a beverage garden with wine tastings, and a Kids Zone featuring activities for the young and young at heart.

The event will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 21 in the heart of downtown Chamblee at the intersection of Broad Street and Peachtree Road.

Taste of Chamblee will offer diverse samplings of foods to please just about any taste, including Indian, Malaysian, Mexican, Chinese dim sum, barbecue, Cajun, Italian and more. Restaurants will offer sample-size portions ranging in price from $1 to $4.

The event is being produced by the Chamblee Business Association, and is sponsored by the city of Chamblee and the Chamblee Alliance for Art & Culture.

For its fifth year, the Taste of Brookhaven, which has traditionally been held in June, has moved this year to Saturday, Sept. 18, from 6 to 10 p.m., and will return to the grounds of Brookhaven’s Conant Performing Arts Center on the Oglethorpe University campus.

The Brookhaven Arts Alliance is assembling “an evening to savor,” according to Executive Director Gretchen Roberts, “featuring some of Brookhaven’s and Atlanta’s top restaurants and food and wine vendors to indulge the taste buds of those attending and offer a sampling of exquisite food and wine pairings.”

The event is presented this year by Fifth Third Bank. Tickets, which are $40 per person, are available for purchase online at www.brookhavenartsalliance.org. Last year’s event was cancelled because of a lack of sponsors.

Diners will have the opportunity to indulge in samplings of food and wine pairings from Blue Pointe, Brookhaven Bistro, Buckhead Bottle Bar, Eclipse di Luna, Haven, Hudson Grille, Kaleidoscope, Nava, Sugar Shack, Terra Terroir and Valenza. Also, Horne Rum will be on hand to provide samples of its spiced rum.
