The following information was provided to the Reporter by the Sandy Springs Police Department from its records and is presumed to be accurate.

Burglary

4800 block of Rebel Trail 30342 – A woman reported July 30 that someone entered her home and took several pieces of jewelry. The woman returned home during the burglary and spoke with a man who was in her bedroom. She said he was looking at the ceiling fan and told her he was there to fix it. She said he must be at the wrong house. The man left in a blue Ford Explorer that was found to be stolen. Air-conditioning repairmen happened to be at the house at the time, and one of them said he saw a man he didn’t recognize in the home.

8400 block of Roswell Road 30350 – A man reported that while he was sleeping at 1:30 p.m. July 30, he heard a loud noise from the living room. He found that someone had kicked in his door and taken his laptop computer.

4700 block of Woodvale Drive 30342 – Someone entered a home while a resident was out of town July 30 and took several electronic items and a Land Rover vehicle.

8300 block of Roswell Road 30350 – Someone kicked in an apartment’s front door July 30 and took a laptop.

7000 block of Roswell Road 30350 – Someone entered an apartment without using force July 30 and took Nintendo Wii and Sony PlayStation3 video game systems.

8300 block of Roswell Road 30350 – A woman said someone kicked in her apartment door July 30 and took several electronic items and several pieces of jewelry.

Park Gate Drive 30350 – Someone entered an apartment through a rear door July 30 and took a Web camera and a couple of other items.

Spalding Trail 30350 – Someone kicked in the rear door to an apartment July 31 and took a computer and router.

6000 block of Glenridge Drive 30342 – The resident said someone forced entry into a home through the basement door July 31 and took several jewelry items. The culprit apparently sustained an injury while entering because blood was left at the scene.

2500 block of Spring Creek Lane 30350 – A computer was taken from a home July 31. There was no forced entry.

A retail food shop reported that someone shattered the front glass to the store, entered an office and took more than $800 from a safe that is never locked.

5900 block of Roswell Road 30328 – A hair salon employee reported that someone entered the shop Aug. 2 and took $180 from a cash register. The video shows a man coming in after unlocking the door, then walking to the register, taking the money and leaving. The man is (or was) an employee of the shop. Other employees said the man did the same thing the day before, saying he needed to bail a friend out of jail. He later changed his story and said he had been in jail and needed the money to give to the bonding representative.

North Hampton Drive 30328 – A man reported that someone attempted to break into his storage shed Aug. 4.

800 block of Overhill Court 30328 – A woman reported Aug. 3 that someone entered her home by forcing open a carport door in April and took jewelry.

Spalding Forest Court 30328 – A man reported that someone forced entry into his residence and took several items Aug. 3.

4700 block of Northside Drive 30342 – While the resident was out of town, someone entered the home from a roof window, took a television, coins, jewelry and other items, and left through the front door, which the victim found open Aug. 5.

Theft

7800 block of Roswell Road 30350 – A stolen debit card was used to withdraw more than $300 at a convenience store. It turns out that a woman swiped the card from her sister, then threw it away. The evidence of the theft was the stack of 18 $20 bills on a table in the home.

Concourse Parkway 30328 – Someone stole a laptop computer from a hotel conference room July 30. The victim had left the laptop unattended for a while.

4900 block of Roswell Road 30342 – A woman reported that while she was shopping Aug. 4 at Kroger, someone reached into her purse and took her wallet.

5500 block of Glenridge Drive 30342 – A woman came home July 30 and found that someone had entered her apartment without using force and had stolen a laptop computer. The offender left a broom belonging to the leasing office, which is investigating.

5300 block of Green Hill Place 30328 – Someone stole a lawn mower July 31.

5600 block of Peachtree-Dunwoody Road 30328 – A woman reported that she accidentally left her wallet on a couch in the lobby of a business Aug. 1. She returned 30 minutes later, but the wallet was gone. Her bank later reported that someone unsuccessfully tried to use her debit card at Macy’s.

1000 block of Johnson Ferry Road 30342 – A man reported Aug. 1 that his blue 2000 Dodge Durango was stolen.

8200 block of Jett Ferry Road 30350 – A 16-foot construction trailer was stolen Aug. 1.

800 block of Mount Vernon Highway 30328 – A man reported that his 2008 Ford Mustang was stolen Aug. 1.

4800 block of High Point Road 30342 – A 1997 Acura Integra was stolen Aug. 2.

5800 block of Roswell Road 30342 – A jewelry store reported Aug. 2 that two men came in and wanted to look at a Rolex watch. They looked, took the watch, then ran out of the store, through a hole in a fence and into a waiting silver 2008 Mercedes-Benz E350. The car had been stolen in Doraville.

5300 block of Northland Drive 30342 – Someone stole a man’s credit card and $80 from his room at an assisted-living facility Aug. 3. The card was used several times for illegal charges totaling slightly less than $1,000.

Theft from vehicle

6200 block of Peachtree-Dunwoody Road 30328 – An in-dash stereo valued at $600 was taken from a vehicle Aug. 1.

6000 block of Roswell Road 30328 – A man reported Aug. 1 that his personalized license plate was stolen from his car.

2500 block of Santa Fe Parkway 30350 – A debit card and a GPS unit worth about $150 were stolen from a vehicle Aug. 2.

5300 block of Roswell Road 30342 – A wallet was stolen from a vehicle Aug. 2.

5900 block of Roswell Road 30328 – A $5,000 laptop computer and other items were stolen from a car Aug. 3.

5800 block of Roswell Road 30328 – A pistol worth $400 was stolen from a vehicle Aug. 4.

Fraud, forgery and ID theft

Someone used another person’s credit card to order $2,300 worth of furniture that was delivered to a Glenridge Stratford address off Roswell Road. The cardholder reported the fraudulent chare, and the card company declined to pay the furniture company, which then filed a police report.

A woman reported that another woman used her name and personal information on a traffic ticket issued in Sandy Springs. She did not own the car and has not been in Sandy Springs. The tag is registered to a man on Bay Court in Alpharetta.

Assault

8400 block of Roswell Road 30328 – A woman who lives in a senior community reported that she was waiting for an elevator to go to the lobby of the center July 31. The door opened, and an unknown man punched her in the chest. The door closed, and the man was gone. EMS personnel checked her out, but she was not taken for treatment.

A woman said she and her boyfriend were on I-285 when they started arguing. She said her boyfriend banged her head on the steering wheel, so she stopped and got out. He drove off.

Arrests

A drunken guy called police and said another drunken guy hit him “a while back,” and he wanted the other guy arrested. The officer arrested the caller. Don’t call the police when you’re drunk unless it’s an emergency. Past altercations don’t qualify as emergencies.

Northwood Drive 30342 – A woman reported a disturbance July 30. She said she was at her apartment when her baby’s daddy and another man came over. Things didn’t go well, so the woman kicked both men out. The baby’s daddy and the other guy left, but the other guy came back and started cussing and kicking the door. The baby’s daddy got mad at the other guy, and they got into a fight. Police made arrests.

5800 block of Roswell Road 30328 – Two men were arrested after they attempted to pass a poorly forged check for slightly more than $900 at SunTrust Bank. The person who owned the account said several fraudulent transactions were attempted over three days.

300 block of Winding River Drive 30350 – Someone reported several males smoking marijuana behind an apartment. One man was arrested with a misdemeanor amount of pot.

8300 block of Roswell Road 30350 – An officer reported that he was at an apartment complex about a theft complaint when he smelled the strong odor of marijuana. He followed the trail to an apartment, knocked on the door and asked the resident if he had pot inside. The man said yes and handed over a small amount of pot. The man received a citation.

Two cars got into an accident Aug. 1 on Ga. 400. One of the drivers didn’t have insurance. He was arrested, and his car was impounded. (We arrest dozens of drivers each week with no insurance and no license. You would be surprised at how many people drive around without insurance or a driver’s license.)

Northwood Drive 30342 – A patrol car pulled up behind a parked van Aug. 2. The van had two occupants. The officer smelled marijuana in the vicinity of the van. As the officer approached the van, the driver threw something that looked like a joint out the window in what appeared to be an attempt to make the joint become invisible. Like a bad Cheech and Chong movie, the joint landed near the officer. The two were cited for misdemeanor possession of pot.

Other stuff

Londonberry Road 30327 – Officers got a call about an accident and found a Chevrolet Tahoe connected to a utility pole but no driver. Witnesses said the driver fled on foot. The Tahoe had significant damage, and it appeared that someone hit the windshield and perhaps was injured. The tag information showed that the vehicle was registered to a nearby address on Powers Ferry Road. The officers impounded the vehicle and went to that address, but no one answered. Later, officers got a call from a man who said he was injured. They found the 18-year-old on Glencastle Drive. They discussed the accident and confirmed he was the driver. He told the officers, “That curve is hard to take when you’re drunk.” He was taken to a hospital and was charged with traffic-related violations and DUI.

A woman reported receiving harassing text messages from a former worker who was fired.

500 block of Northridge Road 30350 – A woman reported Aug. 1 that she found a device with a sticky substance similar to a flytrap in the drop box for apartment rent checks that come in after hours.

A woman reported that she let her ex-husband sleep on her couch after he came in late from out of town. She left him there the next day when she went to work. He later called her and said he went through her belongings and found a camera with a photo of her and her boyfriend on it. He told her he got mad and vandalized her television and other items. They have been divorced five years. She said he frequently travels to New York and back but doesn’t have a job.

A young lady reported that she was living with her boyfriend at an extended-stay motel the past 30 days. She was taking a shower when the staff knocked on the door and said she had to leave because her boyfriend, the person paying, asked the staff to put her out. She noticed that some of her items, including a laptop, were gone. She called the boyfriend, and he apologized. He told her he took the laptop to be fixed but wouldn’t say where. She said her boyfriend’s parents give him $1,000 a month and threatened to take the money away if he didn’t break up with her.

Heards Drive 30328 – A motorist reported that a passing car full of teenagers threw a chocolate milkshake on her windshield.
