Water will be turned off Saturday morning Aug. 21 for residences and businesses on the west side of Piedmont Road between Pharr Road and Sidney Marcus Boulevard to repair a rupture to a 16-inch water main, according to Janet Ward, spokesperson for Atlanta’s Department of Watershed Management.
A contractor cut the 16-inch water main near the intersection of Piedmont and East Wesley roads on the afternoon of Thursday, Aug.19, forcing water to be turned off in the Buckhead area, according to Ward. She said it was not known how many customers had been affected.
Ward said on Friday morning, Aug. 20, that the initial rupture had been repaired and service restored to customers, but that a second rupture had been found. Crews planned to turn the water off at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 21, to repair that second leak.
The utility’s spokesperson said the Saturday water outage could last into the early afternoon.
