The inaugural Morningside Mile will take place Sunday, Oct. 24,. beginning at noon on the corner of Lanier Boulevard and Virginia Avenue. The race ends at Doc Chey’s Morningside (1424 North Highland Ave.), where the block party will begin.

The cost to participate is $25  and includes a dri-fit t-shirt, free refreshment at the post-run festivities and a shot at cash prizes and swag.  The race will take place in different waves geared toward top runners, everyday joggers, or casual strollers. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Fire Station 19, Atlanta’s oldest firehouse, which has been serving the Virginia Highland community since 1925.

After the Mile, runners and spectators are invited to enjoy the Block Party put on by local Virginia Highland businesses.  The 13th anniversary of Doc Chey’s Noodle House will be the highlight of the day, featuring a noodle eating contest, sumo wrestling, and great food.  Other local businesses will also provide live music, firefighter-in-training competitions, sidewalk sales, pet adoptions, and various family activities.  Runners must register by Tuesday, Oct. 19.  For event details and registration, visit www.morningsidemile.com.
