The Garden Hills shopping center, in the 2800 block of Peachtree Road in Buckhead, soon will be home to a different kind of bakery — one that specializes in handmade gourmet dog treats.

Woof Gang Bakery is getting ready to open Nov. 6 in the space next to La Fonda restaurant and Fellini’s Pizza at 2815 Peachtree Road, N.E.

Page Dohoney, the owner of the Atlanta store, said it is the first location in Georgia for the company, which is headquartered in Orlando, Fla. She noted there seems to be lot of dog owners in the neighborhood, which she hopes will be good for business.

The bakery’s gourmet treats come in a variety of flavors, including peanut butter, pumpkin, cinnamon, cheddar cheese, Parmesan cheese and real bacon.

And the names of the treats are tantalizing too: Snickerpoodles, Nutty Squirrels, Paw Lickin’ Chickens, Bacon Cheddar Bones, Beef Stew Stars, Pumpkin Pie Fire Hydrants and custom Woof Gang Bakery Bones. Also available are Birthday Bones, seasonal selections and special hand-dipped and decorated treats.

Woof Gang Bakery also sells premium pet foods for dogs and cats and natural supplements and carries accessories for pets.

Although the center has had several vacant stores for some time — including the old Garden Hills Cinema location — Dohoney said she’s been told by the center’s owners that a chocolate or crepe store and another restaurant soon will be signing leases.

Brand Properties, which owns the center, has had several parties interested in the theater site, according to Richard Rawlins, a Brand salesman, but none of them have worked out to this point.
