Woodward Elementary School principal Reginald Stephens (second from right) was presented with two backpacks at the Nov. 9 meeting of the Brookhaven Community Connection. The backpacks represented 300 that have been donated to the school by the new Costco store at Town Brookhaven as part of that company’s commitment to community involvement. Ashford Park Elementary School earlier received 200 backpacks for its students. Presenting the backpack to Stephens were (from left) BCC board members Debbie Leonard Mayer, who worked with Costco to obtain the donation for the schools, and Kim Gokce, outreach chairman for the BCC, along with Shari Wolfs (far right), representing Costco. Gokce, who also is on the Woodward School Council, said the school plans to use the backpacks as student rewards. “This is going to pay a lot of dividends,” Gokce stated.
