To the editor:

While I wasn’t at the BBA meeting to hear Michael Young’s remarks, I think your (John Schaffner’s) recent article was one of the most responsible acts of journalism I’ve ever seen. When there is a misunderstanding, it takes a really big man (or woman) to acknowledge ownership.

I really respect your very articulate response. I would have never read a racial context into the shoe shine remark – and I have bi-racial grandchildren!

The Henry W. Grady Foundation is one of the charities CHCG (Community Health Charities of Georgia) represents and I regularly attend its Board of Visitors meetings.

Thank you for your honesty and humility to take blame – even when no disrespect was intended. You’re a big man in my estimation.
