During the weekend of Dec. 3-5, Girl Scouts and friends and family of Girl Scouts will receive specially discounted tickets and enjoy an exclusive behind-the-scenes peek at the Atlanta Ballet’s Nutcracker during the Saturday and Sunday matinees. Atlanta Ballet will also recognize the Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta 2010 Gold Award recipients at the Friday, Dec. 3, 7:30 p.m. performance.
Scholarship recipients are chosen based on leadership activities, involvement in the community, grades, and the community impact derived from the awardees’ Girl Scout Gold Award project. The Girl Scout Gold Award is a two to three year quest that requires the Scout to use the skills she has learned in Girl Scouting to design, plan, implement, and evaluate a project that makes a significant difference in her community. In 2010, GSGATL awarded 64 Gold Awards and 11 scholarships.
Over 40 area Girl Scouts, from Brownies to Juniors and Cadettes, will be performing in Atlanta Ballet’s performance of Nutcracker. Several Girl Scouts are cast veterans, including Avery Hinchman, who will be dancing the role of Dream Fairy. Avery is a pre-professional student at Atlanta Ballet’s Centre for Dance Education, and is among 10 pre-professional students who are also Girl Scouts.
Atlanta Ballet’s Nutcracker will open Thanksgiving weekend and run until Sunday, Dec. 26, at the Fox Theatre. Tickets start as low as $20 and are on sale now.
