A 30-year veteran of the Atlanta Police Department has been named the new assistant commander for Zone 2 in Buckhead.
Capt. H. C. “Tim” Ewing was born and raised in Detroit and served on the Detroit Police Department from 1977 to 1979. He joined the APD in August of 1980 as a patrol officer in Zone 3. He was transferred to the Special Operation Section motorcycle squad, where he served from 1982 until 2001 During that time he was promoted to lieutenant.
While in Special Operation Section, Ewing joined the Hostage Negotiation Team and became co-coordinator with now-Maj. Robert Browning, the present Zone 2 commander. Ewing later transferred to Zone 3 as the day watch commander and remained there until he moved back to Special Operation Section as the traffic commander. He returned to Zone 3 as the assistant zone commander.
Ewing also has served as the Zone 5 mid-town commander and Fleet Management commander before being promoted to captain in 2010 and transferred to Zone 2 as assistant zone commander.
Ewing graduated from Georgia State University with a bachelor of science in political science. He and his wife Monica and three children live in Atlanta.
His hobby is motorcycles. “I go riding every chance I get,” he said.
