North Springs Charter High Schools students raised more than $1,600 for the second annual Shop with a Spartan shopping trip on Dec. 18.
The students accompanied 15 Ison Springs Elementary school students on the trip to buy holiday presents for the younger students and their families.
The North Springs students raised the money through Christmas tree sales, donations and a student- versus-faculty football game.
Each Ison Springs child, selected by school Principal Sara White and her faculty, was given a $100 gift card and was paired with a North Springs student who helped shop.
“They were so excited to be able to choose gifts for their families and not just for themselves. That’s the whole idea,” said Shop with a Spartan co-chair Kensha Mars, a North Springs senior.
Begun last year as a student-led initiative at North Springs with the support of Lt. David Roskind and the Sandy Springs Police Department, Shop with a Spartan’s goal is to help local children in need know both the joy of giving and to build a sense of community between the schools.
