A proposal that would allow north Fulton County to secede and recreate Milton County is back before the state Legislature.

North Fulton’s new state senator. Sen John Albers, on Jan 24 presented a senate resolution seeking a vote to allow the split.  In the House,  Speaker Pro-Tem Jan Jones (R-Milton) led the long list of House members backing a similar proposal.

The legislation calls for a vote to allow creation of a new county. North Fulton legislators want to split the present Fulton County into Fulton and Milton counties.  Milton County merged into Fulton County during the Depression.

Legislators have argued Fulton County is geographically too large and unwieldy, fiscally irresponsible and unresponsive to north side constituents.
