Atlanta Police Chief George Turner will hold a community meeting at The Lodge at Peachtree Presbyterian Church on Feb. 24 to discuss police beat changes planned for Zone 2 as part of a reorganization of the city’s six police zones.

The meeting, set to begin at 7 p.m. at the church at 3417 Roswell Road, will be the first of several meetings scheduled throughout the city to explain the reorganization. The forum dates and locations for the remaining five zones have not yet been determined.

The reorganization is designed to balance workloads and increase police visibility by boosting the number of beats throughout the city’s six police zones.  It is anticipated it wll improve police response times.

“It’s important for us to communicate our intentions to the public,” Turner said. “I’m hoping that citizens will gain a greater understanding of what we’re trying to accomplish and see the benefits that will result in a safer city for all of us.”

Copies of the zone maps and a PowerPoint presentation of the plan can be viewed at  http://www.atlantapd.org/BeatRedistrict/2011/index.htm.
