Gift of life – Blood drives are a tradition at the Marist School in Brookhaven. The events are publicized via Twitter and Facebook, and donors get a t-shirt for their gift of life. The most recent drive took place on March 30. Technicians from the American Red Cross set up shop in Crest Lobby, above. Among the student donors was senior Alex Thompson, at left. Day of service – On March 31, more than 1,400 North Springs Charter High School students, plus faculty and parent volunteers, took part in a day of service for the school and community. State champs – Cheerleaders and the varsity boys basketball team at Mount Vernon Presbyterian School celebrate their 2011 GISA 1AAA state championship. It’s the second state title for coach Curtis Berry and his Sandy Springs team in three years. Mayor Eva Galambos and City Council recognized the team with a proclamation at the April 6 council meeting. “It’s been a great run for us these past few years,” Berry said. “This year, we were the only team to come back to the Final Four from last year. That says quite a bit about our athletic program at Mount Vernon Presbyterian School and the things that we’ve been able to accomplish.” Gearing up – Sarah Grady performs her one-handed stand on the balance beam at a recent meet at The Westminster Schools in Buckhead. Sarah is a captain of the school’s gymnnastics team, and the state tournament is coming up soon. The state qualifying meet will be held April 15-16 at The Lovett School, and the tournament is April 29 at Westminster.
