The Sandy Springs citizens’ police academy graduates its eighth class on Aug. 28.

The graduation will be held in the council chambers at Sandy Springs City Hall at 6 p.m.

During the eight-week course, participants are taught about aspects of police work ranging from traffic and DUI enforcement to the K-9 and SWAT teams, police said.

“The class is always a hit! It has been very well received and we were excited to do this for the community,” said Officer Larry Jacobs, who runs the academy with Officer Elizardo Rodriguez.

Each participant must be a resident of Sandy Springs, submit to a background check and sign a waiver. To be added to the list for upcoming Citizens Police Academies, call Jacobs at 770-730-5600.
