At its Aug. 8 meeting, the Dunwoody City Council discussed the merits of introducing impact fees to tax future development.

Impact fees are a charge on new growth that can be used to fund infrastructure and services for the increased population.

Council members agreed that while they saw the merits, they were not ready to implement impact fees.

“An impact fee is a tax on development. I’m not sure we’re on the right side of the economic cycle to put that in,” said City Councilman Doug Thompson. “I think we need to encourage development.”
