A variety of businesses are interested in the Peachtree Road space recently vacated by Hastings Nature &Garden Center, according to the company listing the property.

John Speros, senior vice president at Ackerman & Co., said the company wants put two tenants on long-term leases in the space.

“There’s a lot of activity on the site, but we have not consummated any leases,” Speros said. “We are working on some deals, but don’t have anything to announce at this point.”

He called Brookhaven “a great area” and said the character of the neighborhood is being considered in negotiations.

“We are aware of the overlay [zoning] requirements and want to give the neighborhoods something they will like and enjoy and use,” Speros said. “We’re going out of our way to make sure we get someone the neighborhoods will like.”

Hastings announced this summer that it would be leaving the 3920 Peachtree Rd. location where it had been for 15 years.

The new store is under construction and will reopen in 2012 on Woodhill Drive in Peachtree Corners.

“We haven’t set a hard date yet but it will be after the first of the year,” said Kate Gunderson, a spokeswoman for the store.
