Judges choosing “playable sculptures” for a Sandy Springs city park have made a dozen selections from among 120 entries in the competition, Art Sandy Springs announced Dec. 5.

Artworks chosen through the ArtSS contest will eventually be erected in a portion of the greenway being constructed along Abernathy Road. Entries in the sculpture competition came from as far as France, England and the Philipines, ArtSS said in a press release.

“The many entries were wide reaching and dynamic,” said Susan Krause, one of the judges. “This plan provides for an inviting place where creative thought, imagination and action can take place.”

The winning sculptors and artworks were not announced. The winners are to be revealed publicly next year, after city officials have had time to review and accept them.

A focus group also reviewed submissions to get reactions from children and parents.
