Atlanta police have charged a 48-year-old woman with stealing more than $57,000 from the E. Rivers Elementary School PTA.
Maryam Arjomand surrendered to detectives on April 23 and faces charges of felony theft, police reported. Police say she appropriated $57,000 in checks from donors and deposited the checks into a personal account.
After she turned herself in, she was taken to the Fulton County Jail, police said.
Police have said the money she is accused of taking was found missing from the PTA during an audit. The checks were supposed to have been deposited into a PTA account, according to police.
Police had reported that the the person responsible for the deposits had worked at Signature Bank. A bank spokesman said the woman had worked at the bank’s home office in Sandy Springs, but as of April 9 was no longer was employed at the bank.
