A water main break at the intersection of Roswell Road and Abernathy has been fixed, according Sandy Springs officials.

The break, which occurred Monday, May 14, affected one lane of Abernathy Road when a mechanical joint failed and flooded the street. The joint was installed as part of the Abernathy Road project, a news release said.

Atlanta Watershed Management is working to repair the section of the northern westbound lane affected by the break by filling the area with concrete and installing metal plates. The city said this work will most likely be finished by late afternoon on Tuesday, May 15, at which point the lane will be reopened.

The city also expects another lane closure for the affected area on May 16, when Atlanta Watershed Management is scheduled to repave the lane. The time of this closure will be announced later.

There were also disruptions in water service to nearby homes and businesses, and the release said water users should contact City of Atlanta Water for safe usage instructions at (404) 658-6800.
