Emma Hayward may be only eight months old, but she already has more than $5,500 saved up in her college fund.
Emma, the daughter of David and Carolina Hayward, attended a ceremony on June 6 at the state Capitol to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Path2College 529 Plan, a college savings plan offered by the state allowing parents to set aside income for their child’s education. The Haywards live in Murphey Candler Park. The Haywards won the 2011 “Path2College Newborn Sweepstakes,” a contest Georgia families can enter to win a down payment on a college degree for their children, according to a press release.
The press release says Northside Hospital, where Emma was born, will also receive a $1,529 prize which the hospital will use for its Parents Partnered for Preemies program.
