Sandy Springs Police say they will begin aggressively enforcing the GA 400 flex lane that extends from Holcomb Bridge Road south to the North Springs Marta Station exit.
The flex lane, in the shoulder of the highway, is designed for use between 6:30 and 9:30 a.m. during weekdays.
Sandy Springs Police say they need to step up enforcement because drivers are using the shoulder during non flex-lane hours. Police are concerned that could slow down emergency vehicle response to accidents or other emergencies on GA 400 that require the use of the emergency lane.
On June 1, Sandy Springs Police said emergency vehicles were hampered in their response to an overturned vehicle due to illegal use of the emergency lane.
“We must remain vigilant with our concerns regarding response times until we know that they are not unreasonably affected by emergency lane use by citizens,” said Police Chief Terry Sult in a news release.
