A 24-year-old driver sideswiped a car on Highpoint Road and was chased by another driver and a police officer before he was captured near Windsor Parkway, Sandy Springs police reported July 31.

Patrick Dolan was arrested on numerous charges, including hit and run, fleeing, obstruction and aggravated assault on a police officer, the department said in a press release.

Dolan was driving south on Highpoint in his Chevrolet sedan when he sideswiped a northbound car, police said.  Dolan “continued south on Highpoint Road, but was now being followed by a man who witnesses the accident,” police said in the release. “The witness notified an officer he passed while following Dolan. The officer then drove after Dolan who by now lost control of his vehicle and struck a street sign and stop sign on Highpoint and Highbrook Drive.”

Dolan then tried unsuccessfully to take a car from a woman who was backing down her driveway, police said. Dolan then returned to his own car, which the pursuing police officer was walking toward. Dolan backed up, forcing the officer to jump aside to avoid being hit, police said.

Dolan’s car overheated. It stopped at Highpoint and Windsor Parkway, police said, and Dolan then tried to run away. The officer ran after him and caught him.
