The War Eagles return five starters on each side of the ball from a squad that was region runner-up last year to eventual state champion Tucker Tigers.
In 2012, Marist will have one of the toughest early season schedules in their history, starting on the road in Athens at Clarke Central, then hosting south Georgia power Thomas County Central, than traveling to cross-town rival Lovett before beginning Region 6-AAAA competition.
“The 2012 season marks the 100th year of Marist football and the War Eagles will return experience in the offensive backfield with quarterback Myles Willis and running backs Jason Morris and Gray King, the top three rushers in 2011. However, graduation took four starters from the offensive line, and getting the new players ready to go, especially against the early competition, will be critical,” said Head Coach Alan Chadwick.
“Defensively, the returning linemen and linebackers will be tough and plentiful but newcomers in the secondary will have their hands full early.”
