The city’s police department continues the process of converting 65 police cruisers to run on propane autogas and recently switched 25 Ford Crown Victoria cruisers to the new fuel, according to the company doing the conversions.

Alliance AutoGas is doing the conversions using federal grant money.

The recent conversions will save the department $11,000 on fuel and displace 10 tons of greenhouse gas emissions, according to a company press release.

“Autogas-powered fleets like Sandy Springs help reduce our nation’s dependence on foreign oil because 98 percent of the U.S. autogas supply is made in America,” the company’s press release says.

The city also has a permanent propane fueling station at 6870 Roswell Road.
