On his 16th birthday, Beau Martin of Buckhead earned his student pilot’s license by flying a small plane by himself.
But his parents had to drive him to DeKalb-Peachtree Airport for the test. Beau may have been able to fly an airplane, but he didn’t have a driver’s license.
On his birthday Oct. 22, Beau piloted a Beechcraft Sundowner that took off and landed three times as part of his pilot’s test. Beau started flying lessons when he was 13, his father, Tod Martin said.
“He flies every Friday,” Tod Martin said.
Is his dad a pilot? “No,” Tod Martin said, “but my dad was a pilot. Apparently it skips a generation.”
