City officials plan to move the entrance to Lost Corner Preserve from the corner of Brandon Mill Road and Riverside Drive to a spot on Brandon Mill, away from the intersection. They also plan a 32-space parking lot to allow public access to the park next year.

City officials are considering adding a new entrance and parking lot to the Lost Corner Preserve which should allow opening the property to the public next year.

“This will be the first step that will make this beautiful property open to the people of Sandy Springs,” City Councilman Chip Collins said.

And Lost Corner is the first of several new parks the city plans to open next year or the following year, Collins said.

“The next two years are going to see the addition and opening of at least 60 acres of parks in Sandy Springs,” Collins said.

In addition to Lost Corner, the city plans to open the Abernathy Greenway along Abernathy Road next year and is negotiating to buy from Fulton County a riverside property on Old Riverside Drive, he said.

The city bought the Lost Corner property in 2008 with plans to turn the oak-shaded parcel into a park.

The proposed construction at Lost Corner would move the entrance to the 20-plus-acre parcel at the corner of Brandon Mill Road and Riverside Drive. The new entrance would be on Brandon Mill. A curved driveway would lead to a parking lot with 32 spaces.

The city also plans to add trails and a community garden at Lost Corner, which should open to the public as soon as next spring, City Councilwoman Karen Meinzen McEnerny said.

“With the addition of the community garden and trail, it’s really going to be, in 2013, a wonderful new addition to recreation opportunities in our city,” she said.
