Q: How would you describe 2012 in a single word?

Asked at various locations in the Reporter Newspapers communities during the month of December.

“It’s been a troubled year.… From an economic standpoint, it’s better. But from a political standpoint, it’s been unstable. Especially from any international standpoint, it’s been troubled.”
Majed Awamleh
“Interesting. So many things have happened. We had the election and, most recently, this horrible thing with the children [in the Newtown, Conn., school shootings]. We’ve had tragedy. We’ve had positive things happen. It’s been an interesting year.”
Michele Chartier
“Busy. A lot of new opportunities, my sister getting married, busy at work, a lot of things going on in the country.”
Taylor Johnson
“Great. Because I’ve had great things happen in my life. Great people, great things, great city.”
Valerie Kassel
“Wellness. I started a workout program and I haven’t had a migraine since April. I was having them like three times a week. I’m healthier.”
Emily Matthews
“Shocking. I gave birth to number seven and I was shocked at the outcome of the presidential election.”
Anne Mattus
“Divisive. Politically divisive. It was a pretty tough atmosphere, even among friends and family. It’s time to come together, I think.”
Scott McAuliffe
“Interesting.”
Victoria Silvey
“A good year. A great year. A terrific year in business. Being in business in Atlanta, Sandy Springs…. This area is a fantastic place to be.”
Bill Snellings
“Exciting. I think it was exciting because I thought we were going to change our federal leadership. But it didn’t happen, so I guess you could say ‘disappointing.’ But I’m disappointed in the outcome, not the year.”
Bobby Usher
“Motivating. Because I am training for my first half-marathon and just living a healthier lifestyle.”
Kellie Wall
“Extraordinary. I feel like so many scientific discoveries, so many good things, have been discovered and uncovered this year. I’m just so positive about the future.”
