Mayor J. Max Davis said the city of Brookhaven hopes to hire a police chief within the next month.

The job has been posted and the city has received 35 resumes so far.

“We’ve gotten the biggest response from police chief than we have from anything else,” Davis said. “They all look to be pretty good candidates.”

Davis said applicants are from all over the U.S., as far as New Mexico and as close as Gwinnett County.

City Manager Marie Garrett will hire the police chief. Once the police chief is in place, he or she will begin creating the city’s police department.
