The following incidents and arrests are some but not all of the reports filed with SSPD over the listed period, dated through July 3.
The following information was provided by the Sandy Springs Police Department from its records and is presumed to be accurate.
6300 block of Vernon Woods Drive 30328 – Between June 15 and June 18, someone came into the home by forced entry on a door. A forced (from outside) bedroom window was also discovered. Jewelry and documents were taken.
400 block of Summerset Lane 30328 – On June 17, the resident said that someone entered the apartment by using a pry bar. Two TVs, a PS3, two iPods and other items are missing.
5000 block of Cross Gate Drive 30328 – On June 18, a contractor reported that he installed an icemaker into the kitchen of a home on June 11. On June 15, the icemaker, valued at $600, was missing. The basement and garage door of the unoccupied home was unlocked. The house is owned by a bank and managed by a contracting company.
1000 block of Balmoral Road 30342 – On June 18, the resident reported that some time just after midnight, someone came into his garage and took several items. Two suspects were captured on video.
5600 block of Roswell Road 30342 – On June 19, the victim reported that while he was gone overnight, someone entered his apartment and took his 32” flat screen TV.
Pointe Ridge Drive 30328 – On June 19, a caretaker for the residence reported that over the course of a day, someone came into the home and took several items. Several workers have been inside the home recently.
7000 block of Hunter’s Branch Drive 30328 – On June 19, a resident reported that while she was gone for two hours, someone entered the home through a rear door by breaking out a bottom glass pane. The victim reported several items of jewelry missing.
5000 block of Magnolia Bluff Drive 30350 – On June 19, the resident reported that someone entered his home and took a set of silver utensils from a box in the dining room. No forced entry was found.
600 block of Granville Court 30328 – On June 25, the resident said she saw that her patio door had been forced open.
7700 block of Roswell Road 30350 – On June 26, the maintenance shed of an apartment complex had been forced into. A 1.5-ton AC unit, 2-ton heat pump and 5-ton compressor were stolen.
9400 block of Roberts Drive 30350 – On June 26, someone forced a front door to the apartment of the resident, who was in the shower, and took two laptops from the living room table.
4900 block of Powers Ferry Road 30342 – On June 27, following an alarm call to the owner of a home and her subsequent request not to call the police, the owner found that her home had been forcibly entered. Nothing was gone, indicating that the alarm scared them off.
300 block of Aldenshire Place 30328 – On June 27, a resident reported that around 11 a.m. she was at her kitchen table when she heard a noise that she recognized as someone trying to open the garage door. She heard the dog bark in that area as well. She saw a man run through the backyard of the home.
4700 block of Roswell Road 30342 – On June 29, the resident returned home just after 10 p.m. and found that his front door had been forced open. The apartment was ransacked, but nothing was taken.
2300 block of Spring Creek Lane 30350 – On June 30, a man reported that his brother broke into the home and took items as well as the victim’s 2013 Ford Fusion.
1st block of Concourse Parkway 30328 – On June 30, an employee reported that when she arrived at her office, she noticed that a drawer to her file cabinet had been forced open. Three laptop computers and several memory cards were taken. Another office reported three laptops had been taken during this same period.
4600 block of Brinkley Lane — SSPD is investigating a burglary that took place on July 1. A neighbor saw two men in a green Ford Explorer back from the driveway and leave the area. They traveled to Windsor Parkway, where they turned east and drove away. An audible alarm activated on the home at this time as well. Although the front door was damaged, it isn’t known if the men got into the residence before fleeing.
1800 block of Summerbrook Drive 30328 – On July 2, the resident was out of town for a while, and apparently during this time, someone came into the home and took a number of items including a 55” TV, desktop computer and liquor. No forced entry was found.
400 block of Morgan Falls Road 30350 – On June 14, a 29-year-old woman reported that someone stole her iPhone at the recycling location where she was doing community service.
7900 block of Roswell Road — On June 14, someone stole a can of Freon from a golf cart that belonged to an apartment complex.
5600 block of Roswell Road 30342 – On June14, a woman reported that she set her iPhone down in the Target store near the towels. Later, she checked on it, but it had been taken.
5900 block of Roswell Road 30328 – On June 15, a silver Toyota Camry was stolen
8700 block of Roswell Road 30350 – On June 15, a man was arrested after he stole a sandwich at Publix.
8700 block of Roswell Road 30350 – On June 15, a grocery store manager said a former employee was in the store and tried to steal a box of Gillette Fusion razors valued at just under $29. He was confronted at the customer service desk and fled before police arrived.
6000 block of Roswell Road 30328 – On June 16, a grey 2012 Nissan Rogue was stolen.
5900 block of Roswell Road 30328 – On June 17, a 27-year-old man was at the gym when someone took his clothing and wallet. $20 cash, credit cards and personal ID were taken. The locker wasn’t locked.
6300 block of Powers Ferry Road 30328 – On June 17, a 50-year-old man reported that someone entered an unlocked construction trailer and took an iPad. The iPad GPS was then tracked from that location to Rolling View Drive in Smyrna, and then to the 2400 block of Spring Drive in Smyrna. He said he suspects two people who were on the site earlier and left about the time the theft occurred.
6500 block of Roswell Road 30328 – On June 18, a cellphone was reported taken from a restaurant. The victim placed the phone on the counter to pick up her order, and when she turned around, the phone was gone. The phone was later traced to a condominium at in the 6700 block of Roswell Road.
A donut shop on Northridge Road reported that on June 25, just before 10 a.m., a man took the tip jar and disappeared in the bathroom only to return with a now-empty tip jar.
6300 block of Peachtree Dunwoody Road 30328 – On June 26, a white, 2007 GMC Yukon Denali was stolen.
4900 block of High Point Road 30342 – On June 26, a 2000 Honda Civic was taken.
7800 block of Roswell Road 30350 – On June 26, a man arrived at a convenience shop around 9 a.m. and pulled into the gas pump area. He left the keys in the car when he walked inside the store. He looked outside to find the pump number and discovered his car was gone. The car was tracked to Ellsworth Industrial Boulevard in Atlanta.
1st block of Concourse Parkway 30328 – On June 26, an employee of the Maid Brigade Co. reported that a projector, two laptops and a laptop bag were stolen from the company’s office.
1100 block of Mount Vernon Highway 30328 – On June 26, a man reported that while he was at a gym, he locked his gym bag in the locker and worked out. On return, the locked locker was open and the bag was gone. It contained gym clothing and equipment as well as an iPhone. A second theft was reported at the same time in the same locker room. Another iPhone was taken. Three more thefts were later discovered at this gym.
8100 block of Colquitt Road 30350 – On June 2,7 a man reported that someone took his Mitsubishi Montero.
1100 block of Perimeter Center West 30328 – On June 27, an employee of a company reported that someone took two laptops and a webcam from the office area.
2600 block of Monterrey Pkwy 30350 – On June 28, a man reported that someone took his 2008 Nissan Altima overnight.
7300 block of Cardigan Circle 30328 – On June 30, a man reported that his 2006 Chevy C8500 was stolen sometime during the afternoon.
1000 block of Calibre Springs Way 30342 – On July 1, a man reported that a woman took a camera and two lenses in addition to a computer tablet from his apartment. The woman came into town after meeting the victim on Facebook and becoming employed in his moving and cleaning business. The victim received a text from the woman, who said she would return the items. He knows her name by her Facebook name, which is not the same name she gave him. He doesn’t know much else about her, except that she was arrested in Mississippi or Louisiana sometime in the past. For what, he doesn’t know.
300 block of Winding River Drive 30350 – On July 1, cops were called in reference to someone stealing power from another apartment. They spoke with a woman who ran an extension cord from her apartment to another. She said it must be a mix-up with the power company. She was given a citation for theft and a court date to appear.
500 block of Glenforest Road 30328 – On July 1, someone broke into the pool area of the Hammond Hills Swim and Tennis Club and stole approximately $100 from a locked box.
Cedar Run 30350 – On June 14, a man reported that around 2:15 a.m. he was in his car driving on North River Drive when a Chevy Impala pulled up next to him. In the other car, a man he knew as “Memphis” pulled a gun and pointed it at him. He said he was in fear for his life and for that of his 10-year-old child. The complainant said he was out to buy cigarettes for his girlfriend at that hour.
300 block of Granville Court 30328 – On June 14, a woman reported that during the night, she was sleeping and her boyfriend of seven months came home drunk. Her boyfriend pulled the covers off her three times. Each time, she pulled the covers back over her, which enraged him. He crawled up on top of her and struck her several times in the face. The victim’s 19-year-old daughter heard the noise, came into the room, and witnessed the assault. The man was arrested for domestic violence and jailed.
On June 14 – around 6 p.m. in the Huntcliff community, the lifeguard reported that due to a power outage, the pool pumps were not working, therefore the pool had to be closed. An man in his 40s came to the pool and once told the pool was closed, became argumentative with the lifeguard. The 17-year-old lifeguard told him that he had to get out. According to the lifeguard, the man pushed him so he pushed back. The man then grabbed him by the neck and the fight was on. The lifeguard had some scrapes and such on him. He said he thought he knew the man and could ID him again. Coincidentally, the person who was identified as the other party later filed a report and named the lifeguard as the aggressor.
1700 block of Jefferson Drive 30328 – On June 18, a 32-year-old woman reported that she was at her residence washing dishes. Her friend, who is temporarily staying with her due to his marital problems, came in the door. He was followed by his wife, uninvited, who came in right behind him. She was not too happy. The wife physically assaulted the victim before being pulled off. At this time, no charges have been filed.
I-285 west of Roswell Road 30328 – On June 18, a man reported that he was merging onto I-285 (west) from Roswell Road when a Honda sped up to cut him off from merging. He had to bail out to the emergency lane to avoid a collision. The complainant then sped up and rolled his window down and made a hand gesture. The man in the Honda threw something at him, which knocked off his sunglasses and almost caused a wreck. The Honda then pulled ahead. There was no further contact.
8800 block of Dunwoody Place 30350 – On June 27, a cab driver reported that around 3 a.m., he gave a ride to a fare from Northwood Drive to an apartment complex on Dunwoody Place. The man gave the cab driver a $100 bill and the cabbie pulled out $80 for change. The man suddenly grabbed the $80 from the cabbie’s hand and then pepper-sprayed him in the face before running.
6300 block of Roswell Road 30328 – On July 1, officers met with a man who had walked into an urgent care facility on Roswell Road with what appeared to be three stab wounds. The man said that on the previous night, he was at a billiards parlor in the 7800 block of Roswell Road and had stepped into a fight between a man and woman in order to break it up. Apparently during the altercation, he was stabbed three times in the abdomen. He told the officers that he had been drinking and didn’t notice that he had been stabbed until he went home. He went to the care facility because he thought he needed stitches. He was taken to North Fulton Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
A woman reported that just before 3 p.m. on June 14 she was in her car on North River Parkway when a man walked out in front of her. She abruptly stopped the car. The man struck her car with his fists and then lay down on the pavement in front of the car. She backed up, but struck a car behind her. She called the police. The man got up and walked over to a tree and sat down. He was later arrested for being intoxicated and doing dumb stuff.
6400 block of Peachtree Dunwoody Road 30328 – On June 17, employees of a home improvement store saw a man steal a nail gun, valued at $399, and attempt to leave. He was caught. He told the officers that he was going to steal the gun, sell it, and use the money to buy more medication for his condition that causes him a great deal of pain. He was charged with the theft.
5500 block of Glenridge Drive 30342 – On June 17, a 24-year-old woman called police and told the officers that her boyfriend hit her four times in the face. She had some lacerations and dried blood on her face. Apparently, her boyfriend didn’t like what she was making for dinner and started an argument, which led to her throwing a ketchup bottle at him, which led to the assault. This was witnessed by her two juvenile children. He was arrested and taken to jail.
Ga. 400 at Hammond Drive – Two men were cited following a speeding traffic stop. A pungent smell of marijuana omitted from the window. The officer found a small container that had a partially-smoked joint which the two occupants said they knew nothing about. The driver did say that he smoked some weed on that day, but not in the car. Both were cited and released.
8700 block of Roswell Road 30350 – On June 25, a woman was arrested for shoplifting $4 worth of condoms.
An officer, patrolling an apartment complex, spotted a man that he knew and knew was wanted on a Sandy Springs’ warrant. The man was arrested for a probation violation.
8700 block of Roswell Road 30350 – On June 25, police were called just before 7 p.m. about a shoplifter who had fled a grocery store. The manager was in the woods, chasing the man. An officer checked the area of Dunwoody Place near a convenience store and located a man with the same physical description. He was described as “sweating.” He was detained and positively identified as the same person who stole three cans of baby formula. He was arrested for the theft.
3100 block of River Exchange Drive 30350 – On June 26, narcotics detectives, following up on drug complaints, spoke to a resident who was the subject of the complaint. The detectives could smell marijuana, and could see a glass pipe used to smoke marijuana. The description of the smell was “overwhelming.” The amount of seized marijuana was small, and so the resident was cited with a court date to appear.
A woman reported that she received a call from someone saying they were with a credit reporting company and that there were fraudulent charges on her card. He needed to verify the information on the card so that he could send a new one. She gave him the information on the card. She called the bank after she hung up and they told her no charges were on the card. A woman reported that someone acquired her name and Social Security number and opened an account with Georgia Power Co.
A man on Roberts Drive said that someone accessed his debit card number and placed two orders at a restaurant totaling approximately $100.
A resident just off Barfield Road said his personal information was used to open five cellphone accounts. He was notified when the cellphone company called about the $540 outstanding bill.
A woman reported that someone in Watchung, N.J., used her name and Social Security number to try to open an account at a department store. The account was denied, which was when she found out about it.
5700 block of Roswell Road 30342 – On June 27, a man reported that he left his wallet at a gas station. He found out about the wallet when the bank called on charges that were racking up.
DeClaire Court 30328 – On June 28, a resident reported that someone accessed her bank account and charged $1,337 on a furniture store’s website.
5600 block of Peachtree Dunwoody Road 30342 – On June 28, a family suspects a former caretaker of fraud and theft due to the caretaker writing herself checks out of the victim’s account.
5000 block of Roswell Road 30342 – On June 28, a man reported that someone used his information to apply for a loan with the Department of Agriculture Credit Union (AGFED) in Washington, D.C. The suspect apparently applied for a $59,000 loan for a Mercedes. The credit union called to verify information, which is when he found out.
