Atlanta Public Schools today announced that it has adjusted its bus schedules to give parents more time to get their kids ready for school.

Drop off for elementary schools is now 7:20 a.m., according to APS spokesperson Kimberly Willis Green. Green said elementary schools with a primary campus and a main campus will see students dropped of at 7:10 a.m. on the main campus and 7:20 a.m. on the primary campus.

Earlier this week, parents were incensed when school officials announced the drop-off times would be 6:55 a.m. to 7:10 a.m. Green said APS officials listened to parents concerns, looked at the routes, and made the the change.

“Our initial intent was to deliver students to school in time so they would have adequate time to eat breakfast and adequate time to go to their classrooms,” Green said. “They’ll still have time to have breakfast, they’ll be supervised by faculty and staff and they’ll have time to go to their classroom and be ready for instruction.”

When APS initially announced the 7:10 a.m. drop off time, parents of Buckhead elementary students said they were concerned that their children would wait nearly an hour before the first bell rang at 8 a.m. and a full 20 minutes before teachers arrived at 7:30 a.m.
