A rendering of the Morningside project.

Fuqua Development, which has run afoul of neighborhood groups in Glenwood Park and Decatur for proposed mixed-use developments, has another in the pipeline. Located on Piedmont Road near Cheshire Bridge, Fuqua reportedly wants to turn the Intown Suites Extended Stay property into 44,000-square-feet of retail with 300 high-end residential units. As with the Glenwood Park property, Fuqua has declined to say whether the retail component will include a Walmart. On the Fuqua website, the project is simply labeled as Morningside.
Earlier this month, the  Atlanta Zoning Review Board voted to recommend that legislation proposed by Atlanta City Councilmember Carla Smith to rezone property in Glenwood Park  from light industrial to multi-family residential to stop Fuqua’s development of a rumored Walmart Supercenter along the Atlanta BeltLine. Last week, Fuqua was sent back to the drawing board on a planned mixed-use development on the Scott Boulevard Baptist Church property after DeKalb County’s District 2 Community Council deferred a vote when Fuqua representatives announced they had dropped a five-story apartment building from their plans.

  1. Wooohooo for once I am in favor of his project to knock down this awful hotel and help continue to push the Piedmont Rd/Piedmont Circle area forward.
