(CBS Atlanta, Reporter Newspapers broadcast partner)- All lanes on a portion of Clairmont Road in Brookhaven remain shutdown Thursday morning due to water main break. Lanes affected are from Clairmont Way to I-85.

The road, which is a popular cut-through, was closed around Century Center to I-85 on Wednesday due to a 30-inch water main break.

There are alternate routes motorists can take around the closed lanes. Drivers can use the I-85 access road SB to Century Boulevard then go right to Clairmont Road. Drivers can also use Shallowford Road to Dresden Drive to approach the northside of the Clairmont Road.

The water main break occurred just before noon Wednesday at the 2900 block of Clairmont Road.

“There are a lot of valves and they are very large and it takes a long time to locate them and go through the mechanics of shutting them off. It takes a lot longer than say your kitchen faucet. A 30-inch pipe like this although it seems like a long time it’s not uncommon for a pipe this size,” said Burke Brennan, DeKalb County spokesman.

Thursday morning, water was shut off so crews could begin to address the line itself.
