Mayor Kasim Reed announced this morning that offers are in place to purchase both Mount Vernon and Friendship Baptist Church to make way for the new Falcons stadium on the preferred south” site near the Georgia Dome.

Reed said $14.5 million was offered to Mount Vernon church, including $6.2 from the state and $8.3 from the Atlanta Falcons. If they vote it down, Reed said he would stand shoulder to shoulder with the Falcons and support the north site, but he believes south is more suitable because of its proximity to MARTA.

An offer of $19.5 million has already been floated to Friendship Baptist Church.
